A Study to Assess the Relationship between the Professional Identity and Clinical Competency among Nursing Students Studying at selected Nursing Institute at Rajkot

ABSTRACT:
The Clinical competency and professional identity in Nurses can increase their skills with additional resources including practice guidelines, research instrument information and legal cases. Resources also include full text for books covering a wide range of topics including drug information, nursing communication skills, critical thinking skills and more. The research design adopted was Descriptive Co relation study. The conceptual framework for this study was Pender theory. The study has conducted in Shree H. N. Shukla Nursing institute and Kamdar Nursing Institute Rajkot. The sample size was 150. The collected data were analyzed by using inferential statistical method. Karl- Pearson co relation test was used to evaluate the Relation between clinical competency and professional identity. The obtained value was 1.00. This showed highly significant levels. Hence there is a relation between clinical competency and professional identity.

INTRODUCTION:
Nursing, as an integral part of the health care system, encompasses the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and care of physically ill, mentally ill, and disabled people of all ages, in all health care and other community settings. Within this broad spectrum of health care, the phenomena of particular concern to nurses are individual, family, and group "responses to actual or potential health problems.
These human responses range broadly from health restoring reactions to an individual episode of illness to the development of policy in promoting the long-term health of a population.
NEED OF THE STUDY:
Clinical competence evaluation is defined as an integrated form of evaluation seeking to combine knowledge, understanding, problem solving, technical skills, attitudes, and ethics in evaluation. Evaluation, as a way of determining the clinical competence, is one of the fundamental principles of development and student achievement measurement in nursing education. In clinical evaluation, it must be ensured that the students in clinical settings have an appropriate professional behavior, establish an appropriate interaction with the patients, prioritize the problems, have the basic knowledge about clinical methods, perform the care procedures correctly, and apply critical thinking.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:
1. To assess Professional identity of nursing students studying at selected nursing institute Rajkot.
2. To assess the clinical competency of nursing students studying at selected nursing institute Rajkot.
3. To find out the relationship between the professional identity and clinical competency of the nursing students of selected college.
4. To find out association between clinical competency of nursing students with their selected socio demographical variables.
HYPOTHESIS:
H1: There will be a significant relationship between clinical competency and professional identity of nursing students.
H2: There will be a significant association between clinical competency among nursing students with their selected socio demographic variables.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
RESEARCH DESIGN:
Descriptive co relation study.
VARIABLES:
Independent variable: Dependent variable:
clinical competency.
SETTING OF THE STUDY:
The study will be conducted at selected colleges, Rajkot
POPULATION:
Target Population:
Nursing students of Rajkot.
Accessible Population:
Selected institute’s nursing students of Rajkot.
SAMPLING SIZE:
The sample size of the study was 150 students.
SAMPLING TECHNIQUE:
Randomize sampling technique to select samples.
Data analysis:
The responses were analyzed through descriptive statistics (Frequency, percentage) and inferential statistics Karl- Pearson and Chi-Square.
Demographic Findings:
1. The majority of 130 (86.66%) sample’s age is between17-25 years.
2. The majority of 125 (83.33%) the sample’s gender is female.
3. The majority of 73 (48.66%) the sample’s educational course is GNM.
4. The majority of 60(40%) the sample’s personnel interest is above average.
5. The majority of 78(52%) the sample’s academic Performance is Very Good.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION:
The basic aim of the current study is to assess the clinical competency and professional identity of nursing students. The study has been conducted by using a descriptive study, a descriptive study, co-relative research design.
Shree H. N. Shukla nursing institute has been selected for conducting the study. The sample size was 150 Students were selected.
The clinical competency and professional identity scale with the assess the clinical competency and professional identity level of nursing students.
The responses were analyzed through descriptive statistics (Frequency, percentage) and inferential statistics Karl- Pearson correlative test. Discussion on the findings was arranged based on the objective of the study.
